LONGER LEAD TIMESLarge-scale battery projects to store energy on grids and to smooth out the variance of wind and solar power are also seeing longer lead times. They are taking around 12 to 18 months to complete, around six months longer than they would take without the supply issues, said Andrew Waranch, chief executive of battery energy storage system developer Spearmint Energy. Utility AES Corp (AES.N) has stockpiled supplies of the equipment it needs to build battery storage projects through 2025, a company spokesperson said. A shortage of raw materials that has contributed to transformer supply delays is unlikely to ease soon, manufacturers said. The supply-demand dislocation has worsened with the rapid scale-up of wind, solar and storage projects.

He went on to accuse Israel of being a terror organization because its airstrikes on Gaza had caused civilian casualties. A Chinese state broadcaster recently hosted a discussion page on Weibo stating that Jews controlled a disproportionate amount of U.S. wealth. Among the comments on recent posts from the official social media account of Israel’s embassy in China were similar comparisons of Israelis to Nazis. It is hard to say whether the anti-Israeli positions in state media and antisemitism on the Chinese internet are part of a coordinated campaign. “If China felt that it was dangerous and problematic to allow antisemitic comments to flourish, the censors would stop it.

(Reuters) - The U.S. grid-scale energy storage installations hit a new record in the second quarter of 2023, a report by Wood Mackenzie and the American Clean Power Association (ACP) said. Grid-scale energy storage is essential in helping balance and regulate energy supply in a grid that is increasingly reliant on intermittent wind and solar power. Across all segments of the industry, the U.S. energy storage market added 5,597 megawatt hours (MWh) in the second quarter this year, a new quarterly record. "We saw a huge bounce back in Q2 after consecutive quarterly declines in the market," said Vanessa Witte, senior analyst with Wood Mackenzie’s energy storage team. Meanwhile, community, commercial, and industrial (CCI) installations were at 107 MWh in the second quarter, according to the report.

Forever in debt: Why U.S. loans are getting longer

NEW YORK, June 5 (Reuters) - Consumers facing high asset prices and rising interest rates have a few loan options. But if you must go ahead, either face taking on a big monthly payment, or stretching out the loan term to keep the monthly bill down - as many are doing. New car loans lasting 73-84 months (over six years) rose to 34.4% of the market in 2022 from 28.6% in 2018, according to auto information site Edmunds. A few borrowers are going even longer, with less than 1% of new car loans lasting 85 months or more. MAKE SOME HARD DECISIONSIf you must keep pushing out the loan term to afford an asset, that may be a signal to get real.

PLAY IT LOUD The Sonos Roam is an instant vibe creator, capable of making even the most austere vacation rental feel as cozy as home. Photo: SonosCERTAIN THINGS come standard in a decent vacation rental: fresh-cut flowers, local artisanal coffee, hopelessly uninteresting books. So, why is it always a toss up whether you’ll find a wine key? The promise of any Airbnb , Vrbo or FlipKey is a living arrangement that feels more like home than hotel. Our advice: Compile these six items, ideally in a dopp kit that is ready to deploy into your carry-on whenever you set off for a rental.
CNBC polled eight personal finance experts to help answer one question: What are the biggest money myths out there for consumers? Dealers therefore can have an incentive to charge a higher rate because they will also make more money, she said. Myth #3: Financial 'advice' always has your best interests at heartThere's a misconception that every financial advisor is a "fiduciary," said George Kinder, who pioneered the "life planning" branch of financial advice. "Although households and regulators remain concerned about the cost of financial advice, it's the absence of holistic financial advice that turns out to be so expensive," he said. There are many different fee models for financial advice, and the cost doesn't have to be significant: Many advisors have hourly or project rates, for example.

Others such as online travel agent Booking.com and Sony Group Corp.’s PlayStation provide priority customer service for high-ranking members of their loyalty programs. Other companies that offer premium customer support also say the perk is often a small part of more comprehensive packages, and that its introduction doesn’t mean their standard customer service is lacking. “We’ve always provided fantastic customer service, but what we added was another layer on top of that,” said Genaro Perez, senior vice president of marketing for P.F. Other companies offer priority customer service to customers who have ascended to the upper tiers of loyalty programs that do not cost extra to join. The strategy may help profits, but could create the perception that “free” customer service is low-quality and amplify inequality by deprioritizing lower-income customers, she said.
Brian Witte/Associated Press"Assault weapon" is among the most contentious phrases in discussions on gun control. There's not a universal definition of what an assault weapon is, which is part of the reason this subject tends to antagonize the gun lobby or gun advocates. In short, gun enthusiasts typically say a firearm should be called an assault rifle only if it's capable of fully automatic fire — and they tend to reject the term assault weapon altogether. "None of the so-called assault rifles legally owned by US civilians are assault rifles as the term is used in military contexts," Gary Kleck, a criminal-justice professor emeritus at Florida State University, told PolitiFact. Kleck added: "Assault rifles used by members of the military can all fire full automatic, like machine guns, as well as one shot at a time, whereas none of the so-called assault rifles legally owned by US civilians can fire full automatic."
A former Navy engineer accused of trying to sell sensitive secrets about the Navy's nuclear-powered submarines to a foreign country by hiding them in a peanut butter sandwich changed his plea to guilty, federal court documents reveal. Jonathan Toebbe's wife, Diana Toebbe, also pleaded guilty after she was accused of helping him conduct surveillance to determine whether they were being followed. Jose Luis Magana / AP fileAt the time, the deal would have sent Jonathan Toebbe to prison for 12 years, while Diana Toebbe was to serve three years. The complaint described another instance where Jonathan Toebbe put the card in a chewing gum package. If the court doesn’t accept the latest plea agreement, Jonathan and Diana Toebbe would again have the right to withdraw their guilty pleas.
